Notion Down? How to Check Status and Keep Working (Oct 2026)
Is Notion down right now? Learn how to confirm an outage, what happened on October 23, 2026, and how to keep working with offline pages without losing edits.
If Notion won’t load, first check Notion’s official status page at notion-status.com and the @NotionStatus account on X. If either one shows an active incident, the problem is on Notion’s side: wait it out, keep working in pages you’ve saved for offline use, and don’t reset your app.
The search spike on October 23, 2026 lines up with a real incident, covered below. The rest of this guide explains how to tell a Notion outage from a problem on your own device, and how to keep working when Notion is down.
What happened on October 23, 2026
Third-party monitors logged a major incident early on Friday, October 23, 2026. Pulsetic’s Notion tracker recorded an incident titled “Users unable to access Notion”, starting at about 3:38 AM UTC. It said users were having trouble signing in and loading pages, and that some saw a blocked-access message or pages that never finished loading. UptimeRobot also listed the incident as ongoing.
Here’s what is still unconfirmed as of this writing:
- The cause. Notion hasn’t published a root cause that we could find. Users online have guessed at software vulnerabilities, Cloudflare, or VPN blocking, but none of these has been confirmed. Treat those claims as rumors.
- When it was fixed. In the tracker snapshots we saw, the incident was still marked “investigating”. Check Notion’s status history for the final timeline.
A smaller, separate incident happened the day before. On October 22, Notion’s status history lists a problem with the Notion MCP query_data_source tool in Claude clients. It lasted roughly an hour and is marked resolved. That one only affected AI integrations, not the main app.
Earlier October incidents
The 23rd wasn’t October’s first problem. Third-party trackers recorded several shorter incidents earlier in the month, including Public API errors on October 1, slow page loads on October 5, delayed live updates in pages and databases on October 6, and more real-time sync and form-submission issues on October 13. Most were partial: some features or some users were affected, not all of Notion.
How to check whether Notion is down
Work through these in order. The first two are official. The others help when Notion hasn’t posted anything yet.
- Open Notion’s status page. notion-status.com lists active incidents and past ones. If there’s an incident, read which part is affected (the app, the API, Notion AI, Sites, forms and so on).
- Check @NotionStatus on X. Notion’s status account posts updates and resolution notices.
- Look at an independent tracker. Sites like Pulsetic and UptimeRobot watch Notion from outside, and they can show a spike in problems before an official incident is posted.
- Try another device or network. If Notion opens on your phone over mobile data but not on your laptop, the problem is probably on your end: your network, VPN, browser or app cache.
| Signal | What it probably means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Incident posted on notion-status.com | Confirmed problem on Notion’s side | Wait, work offline, don’t reset |
| Trackers show a spike, no official post yet | Probably an outage that hasn’t been acknowledged | Wait a bit and check the status page again |
| Everything shows normal, only you are affected | Device, network or cache problem | Try another network, then reset (see below) |
How to keep working while Notion is down
Notion’s offline mode is your best fallback, but it only helps if you set it up ahead of time. Here’s what Notion’s offline guide says, as of October 2026:
- App only. Offline pages work in the Notion desktop and mobile apps. They don’t work in a web browser.
- All plans. Everyone on every plan can mark pages as available offline.
- Per page, per device. Open a page, click or tap the ••• menu in the top-right corner, and turn on Available offline. You have to do this on each device separately.
- Automatic downloads on paid plans. On Plus, Business and Enterprise, Notion also saves your recently visited and favorited pages for offline use automatically. You can turn this off in settings.
- Sub-pages aren’t included. Making a page available offline doesn’t download its sub-pages. Download the important ones individually.
- Databases are partial. When you download a database, only the first 50 rows download automatically.
- Edits sync later. Changes you make offline are saved on your device and sync automatically the next time it connects.
A quick prep routine for next time
- In the desktop app, open the pages your team uses every day (runbooks, meeting notes, current project docs).
- Turn on Available offline for each page and for any key sub-pages.
- Do the same on your phone if you’d use it as a backup.
- If you’re on a paid plan, favorite your most important pages so they’re saved automatically.
These details can change, so check Notion’s help center if a menu doesn’t match what you see.
When it’s only you: resetting Notion
If the status page is clear and other people can use Notion fine, try Notion’s official Reset Notion steps. Warning: resetting erases local data and logs you out. If you’ve been editing offline, make sure those changes have synced first. Never reset during an active outage. It won’t fix Notion’s servers, and it can delete edits that haven’t synced.
Desktop app
- Try View → Force reload from the menu bar.
- If that doesn’t work, go to Help → Troubleshooting → Reset & Erase All Local Data.
- As a last resort, quit Notion completely and delete the Notion folder from your app data. On Mac it’s in
/Users/<USERNAME>/Library/Application Support, and on Windows it’s inC:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming. Make sure no Notion processes are still running first. Then reinstall the app from Notion’s official download page.
Browser
Notion’s guide explains how to clear the cache and Notion’s site data for each browser. In Chromium-based browsers, open Developer Tools, right-click the refresh button and choose Empty Cache and Hard Refresh, then clear Notion’s cookies under Application. Safari and Firefox have their own steps in the same article.
Either way, you’ll need to log in again afterwards. Only sign in through Notion’s own app or website, and be wary of any “Notion support” message during an outage that asks for your password or login codes.
What this means for teams
Short, partial outages like the ones above happen to every cloud tool. For most teams the real risk isn’t the outage itself. It’s that nobody can open the incident runbook or today’s meeting agenda when the outage hits. If your team depends on Notion, set up offline copies of a few critical pages on at least one desktop and one phone. Make sure everyone knows the status page URL, so you aren’t all guessing at once.

Frequently asked questions
Where does Notion post official outage updates? +
Notion posts incidents on its status page at notion-status.com and on the @NotionStatus account on X. Third-party trackers can flag problems sooner, but only Notion's own channels confirm the cause and when it is fixed.
Will I lose my work if Notion goes down while I'm editing? +
If you are in the desktop or mobile app, Notion says changes made offline are saved locally and sync automatically when the device reconnects. Don't reset the app or log out until things are back to normal, because that clears local data that may not have synced yet.
Can I use Notion offline in a web browser? +
No. According to Notion's help center, offline pages only work in the desktop and mobile apps, not in web browsers. You also have to set pages to be available offline before you lose access.
Why does Notion work for my coworker but not for me? +
Many Notion incidents only hit some users, regions or features, so one person can have trouble while another is fine. If the status page shows nothing, try the steps in Notion's Reset Notion guide, but sync any offline edits first.
